About Publishers Australia
Leadership Groups
PA Leadership Groups represent the interest of our Members and are chaired by key industry figures who lead each group’s discussions on strategy to promote best practice in those sectors going forward. To learn more about these groups, please contact Isabel Wartho.
Custom Publishing
Our aim is to grow this sector through conducting and disseminating research that proves the effectiveness of Custom publishing as a medium. Our role is to work together as an industry to develop the sector for all publishers through education, research and awareness.
In 2011 PA launched a ground-breaking research initiative. The research demonstrated the case for Custom media to marketers to develop this sector of the publishing industry. The research was modeled on UK, US and South African studies and was sponsored by Australian Custom publishers and key suppliers. McNair Ingenuity, a market research company, assisted the selection process and conducted the research.
Young Minds
Organsied by: Steven Kiernan (Haymarket Media), Fiona MacDonald, Dominic Lovatt (Lovatt's Publishing Group).
The Young Minds committee aims to bring together under-35s in magazine publishing through fun, interactive events. The events are open to editors, writers, designers, production staff and salespeople. Functions are a great way to share, learn meet new people and make friends in the industry.
Newsagency
This group was formed to provide focus on consumer retail at a time of pressure for both publishers and retailers. The group has established connections with retailer groups and a rapport based on similar interests. The group functions as a reference source for smaller publishers to call if they are facing difficulty within retail and provides a useful forum of ideas for active members of it.
Current activities include projects where only an Industry Association representing groups of publishers can make a difference. These include a the trialing of subscription sales models in newsagency retail, the development of a retail tool kit for smaller Australian publishers, the "blue tick" system which distinguishes publications which adhere to a standard of retail supply, and industry data collection.
